Diabetes UK Care Event Weekends

The Group has agreed to sponsor two recently diagnosed young people to attend Diabetes UK Care Event Weekends. There are three different age groups for the events, with programmes designed specifically for each.

The aims of the weekends are to give support, information and empower people with diabetes, they also provide opportunities to:

  • Meet & learn from other people with diabetes
  • Share experiences in a relaxed and informal environment
  • Access valuable time with a healthcare team to discuss all aspects of diabetes
  • Gain skills and knowledge to live with and self manage diabetes

After attending, the two youngsters, one is 5 the other 17 and both diagnosed with Type 1, should return more confident about living with diabetes, knowing they are not alone. Also they will have tried new activities and made new friends which they will remember for a long time.

The Group are very happy to give this support, as coping with diabetes can be particularly difficult for young people. We would like to thank the Diabetes Unit at Gloucester Royal Hospital for their help in recommending the two youngsters. We hope to have a reports and pictures on their experiences after they return.
