The theme for this year was ‘Keeping Healthy and Active’, with the aim of inviting people with a learning disability and a profound and multiple learning disability, their support workers and carers . There were interactive workshops with Active Gloucestershire around exercise, healthy aerobic activities. Also in the adjacent field were Tewkesbury outdoor golf, archery, football, athletic activities and St James City Farm animals .

Organisations taking part included Gloucester Diabetes UK Group, 2gether NHS Trust learning disabilities, Health Facilitation Information, advice and resources, Speech and Language Therapy (advice on safe eating/drinking), Gloucestershire Voices, Glos County Council Employment, Housing and Community Inclusion stands, Mencap, Kingfisher Treasure Seekers creative workshops, Slimming World, Community Health Trainers(Independence Trust), Pets as Therapy, Carers Gloucestershire, Health watch, Community Learning Disability Team Nurses ‘Health Booth’.

Graham and Mike from the Committee attended and set up a display to raise awareness of both Diabetes in general and the existence of the Gloucester Diabetes UK Group.   We had many enquiries about diabetes, from both individuals with learning disabilities, their carers and various health care professionals who were in attendance.  Quite a few were interested to hear about the Group, with many not having heard about us or in fact the diabetes support groups in general.  Hopefully they will spread the word and we may get some new members as a result.
