December 2015 Meeting – Christmas Social

Our December meeting and Christmas social was held on Thursday 3 Dec.  It followed along the same lines as last year with all attending bring along some food & drink to share, and also a large dollop of Christmas Cheer.

This year we were pleased to welcome, Laura Pearsall, Gordon Taylor and Andrew Gravells,  three local city councillors as our guests.  They have all agreed to come back next April (13th) to give a talk on the ins and outs of being a councillor.   Put it in your diaries, it should be an interesting evening.

As unfortunately Norman Douse our normal quiz-master was unable to attend, I took on the role, and I would like to think that all present enjoyed it, although there were one of two questions that no one had the correct answer to, one being: “Which is the first country in the world to see the sun rise on Christmas day? (answer at end of write-up).

The winners of the quiz this year were the “Fantastic Four” which comprised of Bob Watford, Kevin Powell, Richard Connor and Reg Connor, who all received a small bottle of wine for their efforts.

Andrew, Gordon, Laura, our guests for the evening.

We also held our Christmas raffle,  for which I must thank Mike & Chris Coombs for again donating a magnificent hamper for the raffle.  This year it was won by Campbell Boggon.  However the most “lovable” prize, a large cuddly dog went to Andrew Gravells.  Congratulations to both of them and all the winners.

I think all who attended enjoyed the evening, and perhaps learnt a few things during the quiz!!  By the way Samoa is the first country to see a Christmas day sunrise.

A merry Christmas and happy New Year to one and all, and hopefully we will see you at our meetings next year.
