At our October 18 meeting the Group celebrated its 10th anniversary by taking a look at how our parent charity operates at the regional and national level.
The guest speaker was Gemma Jackson, the Volunteering and Outreach Manager for the South West Region of Diabetes UK based in Taunton.
Gemma gave a very interesting presentation on the work that Diabetes UK performs and the services on offer to help people to manage their diabetes.
Also to be covered are the events to be held in the South West, especially #The Big One which is intended to bring together young people with Type 1 diabetes in Swindon. Another key campaign is “Know Your Risk” which helps people indentify if they are at risk of developing diabetes.
After the formal talk a question and answer session was held to help share knowledge and experience with those present.
Finally Gemma agreed to formally cut the Groups 10th birthday cake, which of course we all ate in moderation and it was very yummy.
