For the December meeting we held our annual social evening which consisted of a quiz and “American” supper. For those who have not heard the term “American” supper is, it’s another (and shorter!) name for bring along some food & drink to eat & share. As always we ended up with a good spread, so thanks to all those who provided the refreshments, and judging by what little was left at the end, it was certainly enjoyed by all. And of course it was all low sugar & fat, especially the mince pies and mini éclairs!
The quiz master for the evening was, as in previous years, Norman Douse, who again provided an amusing and varied quiz, which had the teams scratching their heads at times and at others a totally bemused look! Again, thanks Norman for all your efforts.
The quiz was won by “Team 4”, who won by half a point, whose clever members were Kevin Powell, Campbell Boggon, Richard Connor and Reg Connor, so well done to “Team 4”
So you can test your “little grey cells”, try these three of questions from the quiz:
- Q. Write the way in which you could arrange three nines to equal eleven?
- Show Me The Answer!
- Q. What would a tailor do with his hot plonker?
- Show Me The Answer!
- Q. What is universal time better known as?
- Show Me The Answer!
The evening was rounded off with a grand Christmas raffle, with some of the prizes donated by group members, in particular the “star” prize of a Christmas Hamper from Chris & Mike Coombs. Thanks to all who gave a prize, and also to Gloucester Brewery, Tesco’s and the Gloucester Waterways Museum who kindly contributed to the raffle.
Finally, Reg from “Team 4” had a really successful night as he won the Christmas hamper, so well done Reg.
It was a most enjoyable evening, and all that remains is for me to wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and I look forward to seeing you all next year.
